Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar today, on Wednesday said that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) demolition drive at actor Kangana Ranaut’s property earlier this day, was giving people a reason to raise doubts, Hindustan Times reported.
He also said that undue importance was being given to Ranaut’s statements in the middle of her scuffle with the Maharashtra government. Sharad Pawar’s party is a part of the ruling union in Maharashtra. The Mumbai municipal body is directed by the Shiv Sena.
He said this to Hindustan Times, “I don’t know if there is anything illegal and read about it only in newspapers”. He further added, ”It would not be appropriate to speak about it without any proper information about the incident. Illegal work is something that is not new in Mumbai. Though, the BMC’s action in the background of an ongoing situation has made people raise doubts over it. BMC officials have certain rules of their own and they might have found it appropriate to take the action”.
The actor had tweeted multiple videos of the drive and repeated her “Mumbai is PoK [Pakistan-occupied Kashmir]” remark. She used the hashtag #DeathofDemocrarcy as the caption for her videos. On Tuesday, September 8, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had served a notice to the actor for the claimed construction norm violation.
