Actor Rhea Chakraborty was arrested in Mumbai on Tuesday by the Narcotics Control Bureau after three days of questioning in connection with drug-related allegations in the Sushant Singh Rajput case. She is the 10th person to be arrested by the central agency in drugs case linked to the probe into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
“Rhea has been arrested and due process of informing the family has been completed,” said deputy director of NCB, KPS Malhotra.
The agency had first summoned Rhea on Sunday for recording her statement and for the next two consecutive days, she appeared before the investigating team. NCB said they placed Rhea under arrest based on Whatsapp Chats and the statements of the accused.
However, the NCB said it would not seek further custody of Rhea. She will now go to judicial custody even though NCB will oppose her bail. “We arrested her, which means we have enough evidence. Since we have already questioned her in the past few days, we don’t need to interrogate her anymore,” said Deputy DG Mutha Ashok Jain.
The NCB, over the last few days, arrested Rhea Chakraborty’s younger brother Showik Chakraborty, Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda and his house staffer Dipesh Sawant in this case. Others who have been arrested are Zaid Vilatra, Kaizan Ebrahim, Abdel Basit Parihar, Karan Arora, and Abbas Lakhani.
Rhea’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde said, “Three central agencies hounding a single woman just because she was in love with a drug addict and suffering from mental health issues for several years under the care of leading psychiatrists in Mumbai, who ended up committing suicide due to consumption of illegally administered medicines and used drugs”.
