BCCI hopes ICC to announce postponement of T20 World Cup on Monday


From the last past two month 2020 T20 world has been in hold due to the pandemic crisis of Covid-19 across the globe. A possible solution is been expected as the International Cricket Council boards meet virtually on Monday i.e. 20 July.

The globe event is supposed to be held on October 18 to November 15 in Australia. Anxious eyes be eagerly waiting for the outcome with the board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) hoping for a postponement of the tournament to ensure that the 13th edition of the IPL.

With the constant rise in Coronavirus cases in India each day, BCCI is expected to shift the IPL 2020 abroad, it is likely to move to the UAE.

“The first step was postponement of Asia Cup, which has happened. We can only start to move ahead with our plans after ICC announces the postponement. They have been sitting on the decision even after Cricket Australia said that they are not too keen on hosting the event,” A BCCI Apex Council member told PTI on condition of anonymity.

If the ICC opt to postpone 2020 T20 world cup this year, it will be then schedule to be taken place in 2022, as India doesn’t want to swap its hosting rights with Australia for 2021.

Sports have take a massive hit across the globe due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, several sporting events have returned to action. International Cricket also resumed on July 8 when England hosted west Indies for a Test match.
