Bengaluru residents return to bars, pubs for the first time since March amid restrictions


While bars like Bob’s Bar and Toit were open with restrictions of maintaining social distance, pubs like Pecos continue to remain closed. Pub Goers in the city visited their favorite bars and pubs for the first time in five months after these places were reopened to serve liquor under Unlock 4.

Bars and Pubs across the city were closed on March 22nd following the Janata Curfew announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As per the guidelines, bars and pubs will serve 50% of customers at a time in their premises according to their seating capacity and so as to ensure at least six feet physical distancing is maintained.

A reasonably high number of people showed up at Bob’s Bar on Tuesday night, the seating area on the ground floor was almost full, handling the crowd and maintaining social distance was an issue. Although the manager of the famous bar, Mr. Jagsish ensured that they would entertain only 50%of the crowd at a time.

As per the state excise minister H Nagesh, the state government has undergone an estimated Rs 1,435 crore loss due to restricted sales and ban on serving liquor in bars, restaurants, and pubs. The excise department has set a revenue target for this fiscal (2020-21) of Rs 22,700 crore.
