India demonstrates solidarity with the people of Lebanon after the tragic explosion in Beirut.
Indian Air Force C – 17 aircraft were deployed to deliver 58 metric tonnes of emergency humanitarian aid including medical and food supply, on behalf of the government of India to Lebanon. where almost more than 150 people died and 6000 were injured.
Later at a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Shrivastava said ” the aircraft landed in Beirut a few hours back and the aid has been handed over by the Indian Army there to senior officials of the Lebanese Armed force who are coordinating all the relief effort the aid contains medical supplies wheat flour, sugar and pulses and also relief materials like blanket, dignity kit and sleeping mats, which were required as a large number of people have been rendered homeless.
India’s permanent representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti offers condolences to the people of Lebanon on this human tragedy.
“We are shocked by the loss of human life and the widespread destruction that has caused in Beirut. we pray for strength to families to overcome this great loss “. Tirumurti said on Monday at the media briefing on the situation of Lebanon.
The Indian government has also separately sent Personal Protection Equipment PPI including surgical gloves and surgical gowns to Lebanon.
