Coimbatore jewellery shop has become a massive COVID hotspot after over 50 staff members were tested positive. Police have registered a case against the management of a leading jewellery store here under the Epidemics Diseases Act.
According to police, a customer who tested COVID-19 positive on Sunday last, following which nearly 90 workers there had undergone testing and the results showed 58 tested positive in the last two days.
The jewellery shop was temporarily closed for violating the Act, they said.
All those who are infected by the virus are admitted to different hospitals and COVID Care Center in the city.
The health department appealed to the customers who had visited the shop and came in contact with the infected people in the last week to undergo testing.
The department complained on Monday late evening against the management for negligence and also under the Epidemics Disease Act for turning the shop as a major cluster for COVID-19, police added.
