Extended lockdown guidelines: Schools, colleges in Maharashtra to remain shut till October 31


The Maharashtra government, in its recent guidelines, said that schools, colleges, and coaching institution in the state will remain shut till October 31. Only distance and online learning have been permitted by the government. Notably, this comes as the state see no letup Coronavirus cases.

Meanwhile, under Unlock 5 guidelines by the Home Ministry, the states and UTs have been given powers to take decisions on re-opening of schools and coaching institutions after October 15 in a graded manner.

“For re-opening of schools and coaching institutions, State/UT Governments have been given the flexibility to take a decision after 15th October 2020, in a graded manner. The decision shall be taken in consultation with the respective school/ institution management, based on their assessment of the situation,” the MHA had said in the guidelines released on Wednesday.

The phase-wise reopening in the state was titled Mission begin again by the government of Maharashtra. Under the Disaster management act, the state executive committee has released a document with revised guidelines to contain the spread of COVID 19.

Hotels, food courts, restaurants, and bars can be operated from October 5 with a capacity not exceeding 50 percent or as prescribed by the local authorities. Cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres in malls and market places, auditorium, would be continued to remain close. The number of cases in Maharashtra has been the highest till now.
